DAN FOUTS MERCH
BRIEF
Create a visually striking and memorable design of an iconic building named after an athlete that spent his whole career with the Chargers.
OBJECTIVES
✸ Incorporate Chargers’ colors and motifs.
✸ Capture the unique architectural features of the DF building.
✸ Create a collectible design for fans and visitors.
DESIGN PROCESS
We began by researching the symbolism of the Dan Fouts Building, named after the football player who played for the San Diego Chargers. Our goal was to incorporate relevant themes and patterns into the design. Drawing inspiration from Pinterest and Dribbble, we explored trending art styles and die-cut shapes to use in the installation.
Once satisfied with our research, we aligned our creative vision using a single mood board. We sketched our ideas, adding creative twists inspired by hand-drawn pencil strokes. The playful feel from the vector brush created a natural contrast with the building’s structure, resulting in unique illustrations.
Although we liked all our sketches, one draft stood out. After finalizing it on Adobe Illustrator, we needed to choose the color combination and sticker shape. We opted for the Charger colors (blue and yellow) to honor the team where Dan Fouts spent his entire career. We chose a unique cut for the stickers to reflect Dan Fouts’ distinctive presence, aligning with the diverse atmosphere of the APLA building at Nike WHQ.
IMPACT
This Dan Fouts design was the winning sticker for the contest! It was then mass-produced and shared with the employees of Dan Fouts at the Experience Desk. It was truly a pleasure seeing our coworkers enthusiastic about representing Dan Fouts on their laptops, water bottles, and phone cases. The Dan Fouts sticker design has expanded to caps & t-shirts for the first ever Nike.net Fair!
